2. Adventure Caving
 |
For those with stamina and
who are willing to spend longer periods underground in the caves
without facilities such as pathways and built lighting, there is
an awe-inspiring sphere to be explored. Most of these trips require
at least some ability to climb and to swim. The ultimate reward
is the great feeling of conquering your initial fears and fulfilling
remarkable physical challenges. Arrange for caving trip with RMAT
and choose from a range of caves involving different degree of difficulty:
Turtle Cave (Introductory)
This cave is a great introduction to Mulu’s underground world, involving walking out of Clearwater cave by river instead of the pathway.
Lagang’s Cave (Beginner or Intermediate)
Equipped with helmets and torches, be prepared
to scramble over boulders and along ancient river beds. There is
no climbing in this cave.
Racer Cave (Intermediate)
This underground adventure is not too long
and is suitable for even novices who do not mind something a bit
more technically challenging. Commonly sighted in this cave are
bats, swiftlets and some insects in the dark that adapted to strange
shapes and racer snakes.
Stonehorse (Advanced)
Climb 80 metres up the rough limestone cliff
where the ‘horse head’ shaped rock marks the cave’s
entrance. The passages are large and open; you will come across
intersting pebbles sediments and speliothems.
Clearwater Connection (Advanced)
Venture into wild chambers where terrain strewn with river washed boulders. Squeeze your way through fairly tight passages and end the tour in the underground Clearwater Cave where swimming skills become essential.
Sarawak Chamber (Advanced)
Mesmerise yourself in the inky blackness of the world’s biggest cave chamber. This is a particularly challenging tour even for fit visitors and experienced cavers.
